The JJC introduces the community to its owl mascot through a rock hunt at the Iroquois County Fair!7/18/2022
Iroquois County Families, you ROCK! And so does living a substance-free life! To celebrate the Juvenile Justice Council’s new owl mascot, they will be hiding rocks featuring the OWL around the fairgrounds. So, take your family on a rock safari at the fair to find the JJC Owl. If you find one, bring it to the JJC’s booth in the south commercial building to claim a “sweet” prize! While there, you might see a larger-than-life version of the owl. There’s so much to do, see, and learn, so come out to the fair and make some fun family memories!
Iroquois County Fairgoers, be sure to visit the Hidden in Plain Sight display for an educational, helpful and eye-opening experience! We all know that the teen years can be difficult. Signs of teen drug use and other risk factors can be hidden in plain sight, but easy to miss. Hidden in Plain Sight is designed to educate parents, grandparents, and adult community members on current drug trends, how to recognize common warning signs, and how to talk with youth about these important issues.
Fourteen different indicators or signs of teen drug, tobacco, and alcohol use will be dispersed throughout the room each day. Adults can peruse the room and see how many of these items they can find in 5 minutes or less. The display changes daily, so be sure to return each day. Anyone visiting the display will be entered in a drawing for a daily giveaway. Let’s continue to work together to TIP the Scale and stop underage substance use! Juvenile Justice Council Meeting Minutes 6-10-22
The Juvenile Justice Council is devoted to improving the lives of Iroquois County youth. The minutes from their last meeting will provide updates on both their accomplishments and plans for the future. Tune in to 94.1 WGFA on Friday, July 15th at 8:15 a.m. to hear Gina Greene, Community Health Educator with the Iroquois County Public Health Department, represent the Juvenile Justice Council of Iroquois County during a live Hotline Interview. She will be discussing the JJC/ICPHD partnership to bring Hidden in Plain Sight to the Iroquois County Fair. The Hidden in Plain Sight display at the fair will give adults the opportunity to walk through a mock teen bedroom display and learn how to identify items which can indicate teen drug, tobacco, and alcohol use. Gina will also be discussing fun activities for families to take part in at their fair booths.
