Help the Iroquois County Sheriff’s Department keep Iroquois County safe! Proper disposal of medications can help prevent accidental poisoning, substance abuse, and contamination of water resources. Clean out your medicine cabinet and take part in the DEA National Rx Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 25th!  Don't miss your chance to take part in local Red Ribbon Week activities! Encourage youth to live healthy, drug-free lives and possibly win a prize, too! RRW Door Decorating Contest entries are due by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 31st. RRW Coloring Contest entries must be received by Monday, November 3rd. Let's celebrate Red Ribbon Week together and make a positive difference!
The Juvenile Justice Council provided junior high schools across Iroquois County with sets of Red Ribbon Week Lunchtime Table Topper Activities. Students can peruse the various activities (trivia flap pages, a This or That? game, a choose your own adventure-style story, and a word scramble/maze) while eating their lunches during Red Ribbon Week. These table toppers enable prevention information to be shared in an entertaining format while both encouraging and empowering students to make positive choices without disrupting the busy school schedule. The Juvenile Justice Council of Iroquois County is partnering with Ms. Thomas' 1st grade class at Glenn Raymond School through the Watseka Area Chamber of Commerce's Business Education Partnership and You Program. Earlier this month, the students learned about the JJC and took part in several fun team-building activities. The class will be forming its own "coalition" this school year to promote both kindness and positive coping strategies for handling stress.  The Life Education Center's winning billboard design is on display for the month of October near the old Sea Sprite Factory between Watseka and Crescent City. Quinn Butzow from Watseka Junior High School is the artist who created the winning design featuring the LEC's mascot Harold the Giraffe promoting Wise Highs... Choices You Can Live With! This annual contest which encourages drug-free living is open to all 5th and 6th grade students in Iroquois and Kankakee Counties and is sponsored by the Iroquois-Kankakee Regional Office of Education and the Pledge for Life Partnership in collaboration with the Juvenile Justice Council of Iroquois County. CONGRATS, Quinn, Mrs. Ashley O'Brien (Quinn’s teacher) and WJHS! We are all so very excited for you!  |
