Congrats to the 2024 Red Ribbon Week Door Decorating Contest Winners! Ollie the Owl was thrilled to visit each one to deliver their prize package. Thanks to all who took part and entered. You were all so creative! Working together we raised awareness in our community and encouraged youth to live drug-free. We look forward to hosting this contest again next year!

JJC Partners with All Iroquois County Junior High Schools to Host Red Ribbon Week Lunchtime Trivia!

11/22/2024

Last month, the JJC partnered with every junior high school in the county to host a quick, movie premiere-themed trivia activity during each school’s lunch periods. This fun lunchtime activity allowed the JJC to deliver additional important prevention messaging without disrupting the curriculum. Students wishing to participate were treated like movie stars, as they were “interviewed” with a fake microphone by being asked a RRW or prevention themed trivia question before walking the red carpet. After discussing the answer to a trivia question, students played the Grand Prize Game by attempting to throw bean bags into buckets to win a small prize. Students also had the opportunity to interact with the JJC’s mascot Ollie the Owl.

Because a big part of prevention is promoting mental health and understanding why youth might choose to use drugs in the first place, the JJC gave EVERY 6th-8th grade student at the junior high schools a booklet containing various coping strategies and a calming strip. The JJC encourages youth to rely on healthy coping skills when they are feeling stress, rather than turning to drug and alcohol use which only leads to more stress and problems.

Even though this prevention holiday has passed, the JJC will continue to encourage youth to make choices that support their overall health and lead to more fulfilling lives!
