Juvenile Justice Council of Iroquois County Meeting Minutes: 3-7-25
The Juvenile Justice Council is devoted to improving the lives of Iroquois County youth. The minutes from their last meeting provide updates on both their accomplishments and plans for the future. Mark your calendar: The Juvenile Justice Council of Iroquois County will be meeting on Friday, June 20th from 10:00 a.m. to Noon in the Iroquois County Courthouse basement. All are welcome to attend in person or via Zoom. For the Zoom link, contact Barb King (JJC Chair) or message TIP the Scale. Topics to be discussed include recent activities, upcoming summer events (Iroquois County Fair, festivals, and Summer in the Park program), etc. Plan to attend and make a positive difference in our community!
Don’t miss National Prescription Take Back Day! It’s a great way to declutter your home, help prevent addiction and protect the environment.
And now the moment you have all been waiting for…Out of the NUMEROUS Teen Mental Health Public Service Announcements that were submitted, the Juvenile Justice Council of Iroquois County is excited to announce the WINNERS of their contest. CONGRATS to the listed students from junior and senior high schools across the county! (Thanks to the Iroquois County Probation Department for serving as impartial judges! It was difficult for them to choose just one winning PSA from each school that participated!)
Submitted PSA’s were especially impactful, as they were written from the teen perspective about mental health issues our youth are currently facing. The winning PSA’s cover topics, such as stress/anxiety, depression, body image, addiction, coping skills, bullying, goal setting, and where to seek help. Winning entries are being recorded and will air on WGFA 94.1 and The Buckle 96.9 radio stations. Each contest winner will receive an award certificate and a gift card to a local restaurant. ALL 163 entrants will receive a sweet treat. The JJC thanks students, teachers, and organization sponsors for taking part in this contest and being a voice of hope for teens who may be struggling with their mental health. Everyone wins when we work together to promote teen mental health! The Juvenile Justice Council of Iroquois County is hosting a Teen Mental Health Public Service Announcement (PSA) Contest. PSAs created for the contest should promote mental health awareness, encourage positive choices, and inspire teens to connect with others and seek help if needed.
Iroquois County 6th-12th grade students can enter either individually or as a team by creating a written 30 second PSA centered on a teen mental health topic, such as underage substance abuse (vaping, alcohol consumption, marijuana use, Rx abuse), stress/anxiety, bullying, depression, body image, self-harm, healthy coping skills, etc. (See the flyer for guidelines to enter.) One winner from EACH junior high school and EACH senior high school in Iroquois County will be chosen and winning PSAs will be aired on WGFA/WIBK radio stations. Prizes will also be awarded. Submissions should be emailed to [email protected] with student name(s) and school name by the 11:59 p.m. deadline on April 4th, 2025. PLEASE ENCOURAGE IROQUOIS COUNTY 6th-12th GRADE STUDENTS TO ENTER AND MAKE A POSITIVE IMPACT! Juvenile Justice Council of Iroquois County Meeting Minutes 12-6-24
