The Juvenile Justice Council is devoted to improving the lives of Iroquois County youth. The minutes from their last meeting provide updates on both their accomplishments and plans for the future.
Juvenile Justice Council of Iroquois County Meeting Minutes 9-12-25 Last night the Juvenile Justice Council of Iroquois County served as guest readers at Iroquois West's Family Reading Night. The theme for the evening was LEVEL UP! JJC Ambassador Hudson McTaggart read the story Knight Owl, the tale of a small owl who dreams of becoming a knight. Through determination, kindness and creativity, the little owl LEVELS UP and proves he can help and protect others in the kingdom as a true knight in his own special way. The JJC's mascot Ollie the Owl tied in perfectly with the chosen book.
The students then discussed everyday ways that they can LEVEL UP and improve themselves, such as learning a new skill, trying their best, and making positive, healthy choices (eating nutritious foods, drinking water, getting plenty of sleep, exercising, reading, being kind, practicing medicine safety, etc.). At the end, some fun owl facts were shared to LEVEL UP the students' knowledge about owls. Upon departure, students were given Ollie the Owl stickers reminding them to continue to make wise choices. What a great (k)night! Congrats to the 2025 Red Ribbon Week Door Decorating Contest Winners! Ollie the Owl was thrilled to visit each one to deliver their prize package. Thanks to all who took part and entered. Working together we raised awareness in our community and encouraged youth to live drug-free. We look forward to hosting this contest again next year!
The Juvenile Justice Council of Iroquois County is partnering with Ms. Thomas' 1st grade class at Glenn Raymond School through the Watseka Area Chamber of Commerce's Business Education Partnership and You Program. Earlier this week, the JJC presented a lesson about emotions. The coalition will return each month to promote positive coping strategies for handling stress and BIG FEELINGS.
Help the Iroquois County Sheriff’s Department keep Iroquois County safe! Proper disposal of medications can help prevent accidental poisoning, substance abuse, and contamination of water resources. Clean out your medicine cabinet and take part in the DEA National Rx Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 25th!
Don't miss your chance to take part in local Red Ribbon Week activities! Encourage youth to live healthy, drug-free lives and possibly win a prize, too! RRW Door Decorating Contest entries are due by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 31st. RRW Coloring Contest entries must be received by Monday, November 3rd. Let's celebrate Red Ribbon Week together and make a positive difference!
The Juvenile Justice Council provided junior high schools across Iroquois County with sets of Red Ribbon Week Lunchtime Table Topper Activities. Students can peruse the various activities (trivia flap pages, a This or That? game, a choose your own adventure-style story, and a word scramble/maze) while eating their lunches during Red Ribbon Week. These table toppers enable prevention information to be shared in an entertaining format while both encouraging and empowering students to make positive choices without disrupting the busy school schedule. Thank you to Iroquois County schools for partnering with the JJC on this important initiative!
